We're on our way!

We left Guam yesterday and have been cruising southwest for a full day already.  There was a ton of equipment to unpack - scuba gear, cameras, and laboratory equipment - and we're still getting used to finding our way around the ship.  We expect to arrive in Yap tomorrow morning, and should be able to get in the water and see the reefs for the first time.  One of the purposes of our trip is to drill long cores from centuries old corals to build records of past climate change.  We plug the holes with cement so the coral can grow right over the scar.  We'll be looking for the biggest colonies we can find, some as high as 7 meters (23 feet).  Wish us luck!
